Our Misson

The Benjamin Harjo, Jr. Artist Fund is a nonprofit organization that will honor Benjamin Harjo, Jr.’s (Absentee Shawnee/Seminole) life and legacy.  The world is blessed to have the legacy of his brilliant artworks. Through their love and generosity, Benjamin and his wife, Barbara, will continue to touch people’s lives.

A kind word, a gentle nudge, and always a smile and laugh have given artists the encouragement and confidence to bring their creative talents to the world.  For many, this giving spirit has been pivotal in their art career.  Their very presence has touched countless lives.

Through the benjamin harjo, jr. Artist Fund and Barbara’s loving support of this project, we honor Ben’s gentle and generous spirit by paying it forward.  Indigenous artists needing assistance to further their careers or expenses incurred traveling to art markets and exhibitions that receive help will be encouraged later to help other artists and their families along the way.

“It has always been my contention that one’s art speaks from the sourl of the artist and remains viable and open to the influences of the artist’s environment. Forms, colors and movement keep it from stagnating and allows it to grow as the artist matures and develops.” –benjamin harjo, jr. artist statement
